And just like that, we’re back at it! There are already some exciting updates to share from this season, along with fantastic events coming up at our clubhouse. Check it all out below!
Government sports grant secured!
The Committee is pleased to announce the successful approval of a €50,000 grant from the Department of Sport’s Community Sports Facilities Fund. This will help fund Phase 2 of our Clubhouse Development project, estimated at €90,000. The remaining balance will come from club resources and ongoing fundraising efforts. Phase 2 will focus on energy efficiency improvements, including installing solar panels, LED lighting, energy-efficient radiators, and an automated window system. Additionally, we plan to upgrade our gym equipment to complement the new fitness room under construction. Work on Phase 2 is expected to begin in early 2025, once Phase 1 is completed at the end of this year. This recent grant comes on the back of previous successful applications from Billy and the committee, as featured here by the FAI:
The Raheny Rookies Academy, for children aged 4-6, takes place every Saturday morning on the Astro (pitch 5). Turnout has been fantastic this year, but we could use more coaches! With more volunteers, each child will receive more personalised guidance.
If your child has recently joined the academy and you would consider volunteering, Paul McAtee would love to hear from you. You don't need any football experience, there's plenty of materials and practical help to get you going. Contact Paul on +353860810458 to get involved.
LSL 3b side off to a flyer - top of the league!
Our LSL team recently made the 200km trip to face Athy Town, coming back late to secure a thrilling 4-4 draw. Down 2-0, Patrick McNamara and Charlie Ennis (penalty) brought us level, with Eamon Moran making it 3-2. Athy responded twice, but McNamara’s 91st-minute strike saved the day.
The lads followed up that strong result the following weekend with a 2-1 win over Blessington on Pitch 4. Patrick McNamara was on the scoresheet yet again, with Cal McCullagh sealing the victory. Still unbeaten after 6 games, with 4 wins and 2 draws, we remain top of the league!
Girls' football at Raheny United is thriving!
Best of luck to all our 4 to 8-year-old girls who have recently started our Disney Playmakers programme. We're thrilled to have a large number of participants this year – the future is looking bright!
We’re also looking for more 2018-born girls to join our Rookies Academy on Saturday mornings. If you're interested, please contact Andrew on wmndir@rahenyunited.ie or 086 275 0435.
Intermediate 1b update
After five league games, our Intermediate 1B side sit mid-table with 1 win, 2 draws, and 2 losses, four of those matches played away. Despite a tough league start, we advanced to the second round of the Intermediate Cup, beating Rush Athletic. Unfortunately, we exited the Metropolitan Cup in the first round to a strong Finglas United side.
With new players settling in and coaches Mick, Dave, and Greg working closely with the squad, there’s plenty of opportunity to build momentum. As always, your support at games is much appreciated.
Congratulations to our U15.2 Girls – DDSL League Winners 2023/24!
A huge congratulations to our U15.2 Girls team on their fantastic achievement last season, going unbeaten throughout the entire campaign. We're a little late in posting this, but the excitement and pride are still fresh! G'wan Raheny!
A big shoutout to coaches Andrew Byrne, Graham Kavanagh, and Rosanne Maguire for their incredible work with the team.
⚽️ MATCH OF THE DAY ⚽️
15.3 Boys Secure First Points of the Season!
The 15.3 Saturday Boys secured their first points of the season with a well-deserved 2-0 victory away to Esker Celtic. Despite being severely short-handed due to injuries and holidays, the team showed incredible determination against a side that had beaten them just two weeks earlier. With only 12 players available, the squad was bolstered by a couple of U14s stepping in to help. Rian McQuaid was injured during the warm-up, ruling him out of the starting lineup, while Daire Quigley took a heavy knock during the match. Despite these setbacks, McQuaid, though injured, dug deep and came on late in the game to help his teammates, working tirelessly. Goals from Conor McGuirk and Craig Power sealed the win, with the team leaving everything on the pitch to earn a clean sheet. A huge congratulations to the squad for their hard work, teamwork, and commitment!
Our boys have been to hell and back again!
As a special pre-season adventure, the 2014 RUFC and GAA teams took on the infamous Hell and Back challenge, thanks to the generous sponsorship of Castlerock and Scott Group. After fueling up on sugar, the kids hopped on a coach to the 5km cross-country assault course. The day was packed with mud, water, and plenty of sunshine. They embraced every gritty, messy moment, making unforgettable memories. It was an epic day that left everyone buzzing with pride and energy!
