January has been packed with action, from big league victories and tournaments to team bonding and individual highlights. Here’s a look at all the latest.

15.6 boys battle to victory
The 15.6 Boys returned from the Christmas break aiming to continue their impressive season. Sitting second in the league, they faced a tough challenge against Leicester Celtic, who were level on points in third place.
Despite a rusty start, Raheny grew into the game and took a deserved lead midway through the first half. JJ Pilkington made a superb run down the right wing, beating two players before delivering a perfect cross into the penalty area. Luke Ryan timed his run brilliantly to finish at the far post, putting Raheny 1-0 up.
In the second half, Raheny pressed for a second goal, creating several good chances that were well saved. Leicester Celtic remained a constant threat with their strength and pace, but Raheny’s determined and skilful defending held firm.

Kicking off the new year in style
We kicked off the new year with a big week of results as our LSL Intermediate Men and Major Saturday 1B sides both came away with impressive victories in hard-fought battles. 💪🏻
Intermediate Men: Away to Mid-Sutton Sportslink, our Intermediate Men showed grit as they battled tough conditions on a soft, tight pitch. Despite going down to ten men after just 28 minutes, the lads dug deep to secure a massive 3-1 win; their seventh victory in eight league games. Luke Hempenstall calmed nerves with a clinical low strike to give Raheny the lead. A swift counterattack in the second half saw Matty Taafe deliver a perfectly weighted pass to Stephen Kane, who rounded the keeper to make it 2-0. Eoin Abbernethy made a crucial save before a defensive mix-up allowed Mid-Sutton to pull one back. But Charlie Moore had the final word with a stunning left-footed strike from distance to seal the points for Raheny!
Major Saturday 1B: Meanwhile, our Major Saturday 1B side came out on top in a thrilling derby against Kilbarrack United. Jamie Bradshaw struck early to put Raheny ahead, with Luke Corrigan and Dylan Murphy adding goals to secure a 3-1 win. At the back, Nathan Greer’s brilliant saves proved vital in a tough, competitive match.
Two fantastic results showcasing grit, skill, and teamwork across both squads. Well done to all involved, and best of luck to Mid-Sutton Sportslink and Kilbarrack United for the rest of their seasons! 🤝
Players wanted - born 2006

No rest for the committed U9s!
Raheny 8.1’s didn’t take much of a break over the Christmas period, showing their passion and commitment to the game.
On 28th December, they participated in a 3v3 tournament run by Coeurver/DDSL, held at the impressive Sports Ireland Dome in Abbotstown. The boys performed exceptionally well across 21 games. They thoroughly enjoyed the fast-paced format and had a fantastic experience.

Kicking off 4th January, the boys also began a five-week futsal tournament with Play Soccer Futsal in Gormanstown. The sessions are held each Saturday through February, offering an exciting challenge. The players are already reaping the benefits of futsal: developing technical skills, improving physical fitness, and gaining valuable match experience, all of which will stand to them as they tackle the second half of the season. Well done lads.

Congratulations to the u10 boys who competed in the Raheny 5 mile juvenile race. 7 of the lads from the 10.6 team showed up to battle the tough weather. Well done George, Alex, Matthew, Frankie, Fionn, Jack and Cormac. 👏

Happy Birthday Daniel
Daniel, goalkeeper for the boys' 10.1 team, had an unforgettable 10th birthday on Saturday, 25th January. He was surprised with a trip to Anfield to watch Liverpool beat Ipswich 4-1, with seats right beside the Kop!
To make it even better, Daniel got a mention and photo in the matchday programme. On Sunday, he toured the stadium, walked through the players’ tunnel, and saw his heroes’ kits in the changing room. Although he couldn’t have a kickabout on the pitch, Daniel dreams of being in goal at Anfield one day! 😊
11.3 girls team bonding
The Raheny United 11.3 Girls took a break from the pitch and brought their energy and enthusiasm to Jump Zone Santry for a fun-filled team bonding session. Events like these are a great way to strengthen team spirit, build friendships, and create lasting memories.

9.1 Boys – New Year’s Tournament
Despite cold temperatures and heavy rain, the inaugural Raheny United Odyssey Cup went ahead on Sunday, 5th January. Teams from Railway FC, Malahide FC, and St. Mochtas FC joined Raheny United for an exciting 8-team, 5-a-side tournament.

Raheny United performed superbly, with both teams reaching the main final and the 3rd-place final. In a thrilling main final, Raheny played brilliantly but narrowly lost 4-3, with Railway FC taking the cup back to the Southside. In the 3rd-place final, Raheny showcased excellent football and scored some fantastic goals to secure 3rd place and their cup.
The day ended with the boys celebrating together, enjoying a great start to the new year.
